Owned a two-stroke lead after 70 holes of 2007 British Open at Carnoustie, only to see approach to 17th hole carom out of bounds, leading to a double-bogey 6. Bogeyed the 72nd hole to finish a stroke out of the playoff with Padraig Harrington and Sergio Garcia
Earned first victory on PGA Tour at the 2008 Zurich Classic of New Orleans; also has six other worldwide wins
No relation to countryman Eduardo Romero, now a member of the Champions Tour
Took up golf at age 8 after being bedridden and on a strict diet with a kidney disease
Caddied at The Jockey Club outside of Buenos Aires before taking up game
Turned pro at 16
Forced to give up his favorite hobby of monocycling (unicycle) when he turned pro because it was deemed to be too dangerous
Nickname is Pigu
Represented Argentina at World Cup in 2006 and '07
